As we start moving through 2024, more and more people are considering starting an online business from home. So why is this? Well, there are a number of reasons for this shift in thinking, not least because of the global pandemic. Many of us had to learn new skills and become more digital savvy as online shopping, or “E-Commerce” became a necessity. And as we all try to get back to “normal” lots of people are now looking to make some positive life changes, including finding more fulfilling and flexible work. Many parents with young families want to earn an income without going back to a restrictive job. And from a more pessimistic viewpoint, there is a cost of living crisis and a possible recession that is putting a stretch on many people’s finances. So why specifically an online business? Let’s look at why, and what options are available if you are considering starting a “side hustle’ this year.

• Low Start-Up Costs – Compared to a franchise or a traditional brick-and-mortar business, an online business typically has lower start-up costs, meaning you can be up and running quickly without a huge financial investment or the need for premises and staff.
• Uncapped Earning Potential – An online business has the potential to reach a global audience and as you are open 24/7 365 days a year, this means your potential for growth is virtually unlimited. You can even make money while you sleep!
• Study In Your Own Time – You can learn the information and skills you’ll need to start your new online venture in your own time, when it suits you.

And so what are “The Top 3 Ways To Start An Online Business in 2024?”

There are many different types of businesses that can be started online from home, but here in detail, are the top 3 – 

Affiliate Marketing – Affiliate Marketing is a good option for beginners or those who are looking to start a business with low start-up costs as you don’t have to create your own products or handle any inventory. This business model involves promoting other people’s products or services for a commission, with sales that are made through your own unique affiliate link. Depending on which company’s products you choose to promote, commissions can range from low-ticket to high-ticket.

E-commerce – E-commerce businesses sell products or services online. This can include selling digital products like e-books or online courses. Other options are to create your own designs for print-on-demand products or sell physical products from your own online shop. These days there are a few online marketplaces where you can get set up and start selling relatively quickly, like Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and Shopify. 

Online Coaching or Consulting – Online coaching or consulting businesses involve providing advice or services in a specific niche. This can include business training, health coaching, or financial consulting, to name just a few of the many possibilities. In a similar way to the Affiliate Marketing model, a coaching or consulting business can be operated entirely online and with little to no start-up costs. This type of business can also be scaled up quickly by leveraging technology and the internet, to reach more clients than you could just by focusing on your local area.

*One thing to note with all of these online businesses is that you need to know how to be an authority in your field. You need to know how to stand out from the crowd and stand apart from all the noise online.
